OWL-Based Knowledge Discovery Using Description Logics Reasoners
نویسندگان
چکیده
The recent advent of the Semantic Web has given rise to the need for efficient and sound methods that would provide reasoning support over the knowledge scattered on the Internet. Description Logics and DLbased inference engines in particular play a significant role towards this goal, as they seem to have overlapping expressivity with the Semantic Web de facto language, OWL. In this paper we argue that DLs currently constitute one of the most tempting available formalisms to support reasoning with OWL. Further, we present and survey a number of DL based systems that could be used for this task. Around one of them (Racer) we build our Knowledge Discovery Interface, a web application that can be used to pose intelligent queries to Semantic Web documents in an intuitive manner. As a proof of concept, we then apply the KDI on the CIDOC-CRM reference ontology and discuss our results.

Paraconsistent OWL and related logics
The Web Ontology Language OWL is currently the most prominent formalism for representing ontologies in Semantic Web applications. OWL is based on description logics, and automated reasoners are used to infer knowledge implicitly present in OWL ontologies. However, because typical description logics obey the classical principle of explosion, reasoning over inconsistent ontologies is impossible i...
متن کاملRule-Based OWL Reasoning for Specific Embedded Devices
Ontologies have been used for formal representation of knowledge for many years now. One possible knowledge representation language for ontologies is the OWL 2 Web Ontology Language, informally OWL 2. The OWL specification includes the definition of variants of OWL, with different levels of expressiveness. OWL DL and OWL Lite are based on Description Logics, for which sound and complete reasone...
متن کاملReasoning with Large A-Boxes in Fuzzy Description Logics using DL reasoners: An experimental evaluation
While knowledge representation languages developed in the context of the Semantic Web build mainly on crisp knowledge, fuzzy reasoning seems to be needed for many applications, e.g. for retrieval of images or other resources. However, techniques for fuzzy reasoning need to scale to large A-Boxes for practical applications. As a first step towards clarifying whether fuzzy reasoning techniques ca...
متن کاملService Specification and Matchmaking using Description Logic1
This is an extended abstract of [11]. Service-oriented computing is emerging as a new paradigm based on autonomous, platform-independent computational entities, called services, that can be described, published, and dynamically discovered and assembled. An important part of a service is its public interface, which describes the service and should be independent of the technique used for impleme...
متن کاملParallelizing Semantic Web Inference using the Actor Model
Description logics are decidable logics that enable knowledge engineers to represent classifications of objects tractably. The Web Ontology Language (OWL) [1] has a description logic fragment to give Semantic Web [2] applications access to powerful logic while retaining elegant computational properties, but most work on OWL reasoners has focused on improving performance using a single thread. W...
